Progress with Purpose: A Milwaukie for All

Building on our
Milwaukie Momentum

Milwaukie has a tradition of being an example of what progressive leadership looks like at the local level, but that momentum from years past has faded. This is not a time to rest on our laurels, from the rising cost of housing to a worsening climate crisis, Milwaukie needs bold progressive leadership once more. I’m proud to have the support of local leaders like Councilors Angel Falconer and Desi Nicodemus who are responsible for much of the progress we have seen over the last decade.

I’m running because I believe we need to lean into what makes this city so special. That means separating from NCPRD and investing more in a world-class parks district. That means supporting neighborhood hubs that not only make our city more livable, but more affordable as well. And that means adopting a responsible fiscal policy to make sure our city can pay for basic services and pay our city staff a living wage.

Listening and Working Together

As a Queer, mixed-race, Mexican man I know firsthand the power of representation. As your councilor, I will be a champion for equity and inclusion. This issue is personal to me, the Latino community in Milwaukie is approaching 15% of the population, yet we have never had a Latino city councilor. There is much more that we need to do to meaningfully include the Latino community in our decisions as a city. I’m running to represent my community because I know that if we fail to have a seat at the table, we will be left out of the solution yet again.

Milwaukie faces some serious challenges, it will take our entire community to overcome them. I’m running to be your voice on council, to listen to all community members especially those who aren’t traditionally represented in local government. I’m a working-class, mixed-race millennial, I’m not your traditional city councilor. But this diversity is my strength. I am committed to being a voice for those who aren’t used to seeing themselves in government.

About Camden

When Camden and his fiance first moved to Milwaukie, they simply wanted to find an affordable community to settle down. But quickly Camden came to see that this city has something special. Yes, Milwaukie has a charming downtown, quiet streets, and lovely local parks, but it’s our community that has made Camden fall in love with this city.

Camden has a history of leadership in our community. He served as the Chair of the Lewelling NDA, advocating for parts of the city often overlooked and underserved. He helped rekindle Bike Milwaukie, a community group that hosts monthly bike rides and advocates for improved transportation safety. And as a member of the city’s Tree Board, Camden has helped advocate for policies to protect our urban canopy and prepare our city for the impacts of the climate crisis.

Camden’s story is not uncommon, many young families moving to Milwaukie were priced out of Portland. Our affordability is what makes this city special, and Camden is committed to ensuring Milwaukie remains a town that working-class families can call home.
